Iowa railroads receive over $9 million in disaster aid -  The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has awarded more than $9.6 million to the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) to reimburse three of Iowa’s shortline and regional railroads for emergency repairs to damaged railroad infrastructure resulting from last year’s flooding.

Presentations from the 2009 Moving Iowa Forward Conference are now available -
The conference examined the ways in which transportation and economic development are linked. John Horsley, Director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials was the keynote speaker. Breakout sessions focused on green logistics, risk management and the global aspects of shipping.

Visit the Iowa DOT’s Recovery Web site to learn more about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). The Recovery Act was signed into law by President Obama Feb. 17, 2009. It is an unprecedented effort to jumpstart our economy, create or save millions of jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st century.  Funding made available through the Recovery Act will assist Iowa in strengthening its transportation systems, including Iowa’s rail, transit, aviation, highways, waterways, and other modes of surface transportation. 

Iowa Connections Iowa Connections  is an initiative for expanded intercity passenger rail in Iowa.  Learn about the vision for future passenger rail service, the benefits and funding needs.
 

The Iowa DOT has a funding initiative to gain   additional funding for the Railroad Revolving Loan and Grant Program (RRLGP) called Access Rail.  The RRLGP assists business and industry in building or upgrading connections (such as rail spurs) to the rail system.


Highway-railroad crossing signal safety improvements approved for FY2010 - Nineteen crossings are on track for safety upgrades.

Highway-railroad crossing surface improvements approved for FY 2009 and FY 2010 - Eighty-one crossings are on track for smoother and safer crossings.
